Who We Are
We are a vibrant group of Catholic women ages 14+ and part of a larger membership of over four million Catholic women worldwide. We women, from all levels of society, are passionate about social justice, legislation, current events, spirituality, the plight of the poor, women's issues, the dignity of the human being, and so much more.
We Offer Leadership Support and Guidance: • Quarterly Meetings are held at parishes on the first Wednesdays of March, June, September & December. Any parish may host a meeting by calling our President. All Catholic Women are invited to attend.• Open Board Meetings are held in all other months except January and August. Please call the President if you would like to attend. • The women of our Diocese are represented at the National Conference of Catholic Women’s annual convention and other meetings held at various times in various regions of the US. • We have three Commissions and offer opportunities for you to chair a Commission if you desire.• We provide a quarterly newsletter, the CHAT.• We advocate on vital state legislative issues.
Our DCCW is an umbrella organization affiliated with the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) that encompasses all Catholic women of the diocese: Parish Councils of Catholic Women, altar and rosary societies and affiliated women’s groups.
The NCCW was founded in 1920 by the U.S. Catholic bishops to provide all Catholic women a common voice and an instrument of unified action. Their website is here.
With its diocesan councils, the National Council is a member of the World Union of Catholic Women's Organizations (WUCWO). The Holy See affirms WUCCWO as the "voice of women in the Church and as the voice of Church." WUCCWO received from the Pontifical Council for the Laity the final decree of its canonical status as a public association of the faithful.
